If you want to learn what national organizations support later start times, like the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Center for Disease Control go to this page of our toolkit.
Educate Children about Sleep
Teach children good sleep habits from an early age like maintaining a consistent bedtime, getting enough of sleep, limiting caffeine and turning off the TV, cell phone and video games before bed. Check out these Sleep Tips to learn more. The impact of sleep loss is important to know, especially teenagers who are at a greater risk for anxiety/depression and drowsy driving.
Inform School Leaders
School leaders need to hear from community members who support later school start times for teenagers. You can use this School start times template letter (from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine) to start the conversation in your school district.
Let them know we have sleep educators who can present on the impact of sleep to community members, staff and students themselves.
